Please help find a cure for Courtney

The heart-rending case of 22-year-old Courtney Render compels us all to pause and try to help. Courtney suffers from Hodgkin's Lymphoma and although she has received much treatment, her disease continues to progress. Now to survive, Courtney must have an expensive operation only available in the U.S. The procedure is  known as an allogeneic stemcell transplant. Two cycles of chemotherapy, four weeks of radiation, an Autologous stem-cell transplant, and a trial drug in Detroit have sustained Courtney’s life. But these treatments have not cured Courtney. Bendamustine, the current drug being administered at a private Toronto clinic will not be the cure. The last dosage of this drug occurs in late May, as Courtney reaches the maximum allowable number of dosages. Two public spirited ladies, Carey Rosenzweig and Jennie Dale have organized a fundraising event for Wednesday June 13, 2012 at The Avenue Banquets, 1600 Steeles Ave. West. Anyone who is able is urged to donate today by going to http://thecureforcourtney.com/

Forest Hill kids have their Prom

Thursday May 24, 2012 was a day of excitement for the kids from Forest Hill  Collegiate Institute as their Prom was held at Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex at Exhibition Place. More than 200 graduates, including Matt Kruger and Erin Silver (inset) made this great scene. It was a day of celebrating with pre-Prom  dance parties held beginning at 4 pm.  Nice because parents can go to these. There were also post Prom parties after the dance with hotel rooms booked and monitored by parents.  For safety, llimousines were used as transportation, as they usually are.

Premium Outlets mall to be built near us

SmartCentres, owner of the properties on Laird Drive, is a partner with Simon Property in the U.S, to build the first Premium Outlets mall in Canada at a location in Halton Hills, near Oakville. Ground has already been broken on Toronto Premium Outlets which will mirror the many Premium Outlet malls across the U.S.  The site is adjacent to Highways 401 and 427 and is designed to draw traffic which might otherwise head to Buffalo. They are betting however that it will do a lot more than that. SmartCentres is an aggressive Canadian company with shopping centres nationally but it pales in size to the enormous assets of Simon Property. With 363 properties (as shown on the map) it has 5,000 employees and leases some 264 million square feet of retail space.
